8500+ BWHA - 16 Sep 2021

The Broad-winged Hawks did not disappoint today. Hawk Cliff Hawk Watch in Ontario reported 16,000 birds yesterday, and weather was ripe for a flight today. The birds started coming over the count site here at Detroit River Hawk Watch shortly after 10 am and continued throughout the rest of the day. Hourly counts were in the hundreds to thousands. But the birds were high up in the stratosphere and almost invisible unless you had binoculars. I managed a few photos. One kettle had almost 1000 birds alone.

The Monarch Butterflies were moving today, as well. Dozens were passing over every few minutes and provided some nice looks.
