Crayfish. It's What's for Dinner - 07 Jun 2008

I managed this flight pic this morning at Pt. Mouillee along the Middle Causeway. Black Terns were travelling between the Lead and Vermet Units on feeding runs, and enjoying the fact that I couldn't keep up with their flight speed. They seemed to disregard me and would fly directly at and over me as they moved from one unit to the other. I got the impression that they were feeding in the Vermet Unit and flying crayfish and minnows to the far reaches of the Lead Unit where their nests were. I was unable to focus-lock w/ the D300 so I settled for manual focusing, which still allowed me 8fps and capture this guy just moments before he passed overhead.
