No Warblers, Yet - 19 Aug 2026

I made a run to Elizabeth Park this morning to see if any (fall) warblers had arrived, yet. The answer was no. Aside from a pair of singing Eastern Wood-Pewee the woods were dry and quiet.

I then drove down the street to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge to look for warblers. None there, either. The only bird seen was a Caspian Tern fishing in the Monguagon Delta. I had the opportunity to get a few pics w/ the 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens.

The only thing to do at this point was to turn eyes to the flowering vegetation around me. This Blue Lobelia was growing among the Purple Loosestrife and is perhaps the gem flower of the boardwalk area.

Along the edge of the north trail a large patch of Yellow Foxtail was growing and showing well, especially as it was backlit by the morning Sun.

An Eastern Pondhawk made a brief appearance across the trail.

And just ahead was a small patch of Japanese Bristlegrass, also called Giant Foxtail!

I headed back to the car w/ the hopes that some warblers will show in the next few days.
