Clear, mild 50F

0900 Hrs. Arrived at marsh. Red-winged Blackbirds and Song Sparrows are all about displaying and singing. The marsh is "loaded" with ducks. The water level is way down, with most of the inland lakes showing vegetation. A few Canada Geese have staked out claims on top of muskrat dens. A group of about 20 American Wigeon are gathered together in the vegetation splashing about and making their high pitched calls.

To my left in the bay are small rafts of Common Mergansers.  As I approach the first marsh area a flock of Tundra Swans fly overhead.  Walking down the dike road a large flock of Lesser Scaup are gathered in the heavy marsh.  There are about 200 of them. Farther down the road in one of the irrigation ditches are a pair of Bufflehead, pair of Northern Shoveler, and more scaup.

1000 Hrs. The only shorebirds seen anywhere so far this year are the
Killdeer, and they are not quite out in force, yet.  Farther beyond in the marshes south near the lake are hundreds to a thousand Mallard, scaup, Northern Shoveler, American Wigeon, swans, and American Black Ducks.  Everywhere i look there are ducks flying and swimming. Truly a duck hunters paradise. Too bad i can't get closer to them. They are extremely wary and easily spooked...

1030 Hrs. As i leave, i notice a pair of courting Pied-billed Grebes
In the opening of some of the vegetation. They are bobbing their heads at each other, and occasionally dipping their heads down into the water.
