Short-eared Owl - 15 Mar 2004

15 March 2004 Pt. Mouillee SGA, Monroe

A Short-eared Owl was observed tonight (5pm) at Pt. Mouillee hunting the area next to the junction at Bloody Run, Long Pond, Lead and Vermet Units.

Ducks are starting to move into the marsh: Ring-necks, Redheads, Pintails, Mallards, Canada Geese, Redwings, and Kildeer. No evidence of Snipe or Woodcock, yet (but I was only there about an hour). The cold appears to have delayed movement into the marsh by a week or so...

Out in front of Pt. Mouillee HeadQuarters: Common Mergansers, Hooded Mergansers (8), Common Goldeneye (2), Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead (10), Tundra and Mute Swans.
