Ring-billed Gull - 20 Jan 2005

20 January 2005 Detroit River, Ecorse

1200 Hrs.  Cloudy, gray, cold, 12ºF;  It’s a frigid day with snow on the ground from yesterday’s 2”.  A walk to the edge of the pier at Southfield and Jefferson yielded only a few Ring-billed Gulls along the railing.  The river is open with no ice or flows.  A small congregation of Mute Swans, Mergansers (Common and Hooded), Canvasbacks, Ring-billed, Goldeneye and Redheads are out in the middle of the river, but nothing near shore.  I’m stuck with taking pics of the gulls on the rails.  Using fill-flash and the D70 / 400mm/f5.6 on ‘P’ I get some nice images of the gulls.
