Antrim Co. Hilites - 26 Mar 2005
26 March 2005 Antrim Co.
0930 Hrs. Sunny, 38F. Another pretty spring morning. Robin and I took a ride up to Petoskey for beads.
A swing by the canal yielded a Mink running along the ice edge on the far side of the lake. It then paused, and began swimming across the canal toward our side. I got out of the car and took several pics of it as it approached, but it disappeared under the ice as it arrived on our side. Cool.
A short drive around the corner of M-88 (leaving Central Lake) we saw the first Turkey Vulture of the spring. This was followed by a flyover Sharp-shinned Hawk and then 8 Wild Turkeys roosting in the trees back about 100yds from the road.

1100 Hrs. Dropped Robin off a the bead store (Indian Hills Gallery, Petoskey, US-119) and drove to Petoskey State Park. The paths to the parking lot were blocked by hills of snow, so I didn’t stay. The bay in Petoskey was still frozen solid. There was open water out in Lake Michigan between Charlevoix and Petoskey.
I drove down through some private nature preserve lands north of the state park and managed only a shot of some American Crows.
Driving then out to Boyne City I did see several Red-tailed Hawks and a single Rough-legged Hawk.

The drive back to the condo yielded nothing worth stopping for…
