Oakwoods Metropark - 16 Jun 2005

16 June 2005 Oakwoods Metropark, Wayne Co.

1700 Hrs.  A drive out to the Metropark was accompanied by strong winds, brief rains, and cool temps in the 50's.

I was unable to hear the Henslow's Sparrows in the field before the railroad tracks, but I did hear an Eastern Towhee in the parking lot just past the tracks.  A Blackburnian Warbler was also heard there on the way out.

A trip to the Nature Center allowed me to digiscope a deer feeding in the Huron River across from the boat ramp, and while I was there I heard the Prothonotary Warbler sing its 'Sweet-sweet-sweet' song several times.

I saw a singing Bobolink in the field across the road just as you turn left from the Nature Center back to the main road.  The field also held a pair of Savannah Sparrows, several Eastern Meadowlarks, and a pair of territory-defending Eastern Kingbirds.

At the entrance to the Metropark an adult Killdeer was feeding alongside (5) little baby Killdeer (very cute).
