Lifer Purple Finch - 27 Aug 2005

1900 Hrs.  East Jordan - mouth of Jordan River.  Saw a Wood Duck (eclipse male) and Painted Turtle sharing a log in the late afternoon sunshine.  A Greater Yellowlegs was foraging on the opposite side of the shore.  A Caspian Tern was observed feeding overhead.  Above me in a tree was a female Purple Finch.  Finally, a Purple Finch (lifer)!

2000 Hrs.  A walk around the neighborhood yielded a male Purple Finch

and a pair of American Goldfinches near the canal connecting Hanley and Intermediate Lakes.  Flyover Mallards were caught on the D70 and 400mm Sigma.

The American Goldfinches were feeding heavily at the back of the condo from my sack feeder and now new finch feeder.

A walk down to Lake Hanley revealed some nice insects. A Praying Mantis was a nice find

and a pair of male and female damselflies.
