Eastern Meadowlark - 17 May 2006

1800 Hrs.  I took a quick drive through Oakwoods Metropark this evening, and saw a few Eastern Bluebirds, Eastern Meadowlarks, Red-wings, and a Turkey Vulture, but little else.  I tried for the Henslow’s Sparrow, but had no luck.  The park ranger stopped me and chased me away from the area (no parking on the shoulder, he said…)

I then drove down toward the nature center, and got a couple nice pics of an Eastern Meadowlark on a Mullein plant.

I then stopped by Crosswinds Marsh and saw a Bald Eagle on the nest, and another across the road in the field near the landfill – just sitting on the road near families of Canada Geese, Spotted Sandpipers, and Mallard.
