HawkFest @ LEMP - 16 Sep 2006

0900 Hrs.  Stopped by the Riverside Park in Gibraltar just past Campau Rd.  A few Ring-billed Gulls, Great Egrets, Forster’s Terns and Double-crested Cormorants around, but its overcast and hazy.  I did see a DC-Cormorant and a Great Egret snap at each other on a log out in the middle of the river.  Very fun!

I then drove over to Pt. Mouillee SGA Headquarters to see who show up from the WAS Audubon.  Today is the annual Hawk Festival at LEMP.  I finally met Cathy Carroll – leader of the group.  Nice lady.  Also met Don Chalfant and exchanged greetings.  Saw an Osprey overhead dive bomb the lake and fly off w/ a shad.

Then drove over to the Hawkfest.  At the boat dock there were lots of people and no hawks – they had 12 total for the day…  I went over to the tents and photographed a Peregrin, Prairie Falcon and Red-tail that some falconers had brought – Beautiful birds!

I then checked out some binoculars – loved the Swarovski 8.5X42, but didn’t like the 8X32.  Tried the Nikon 8X42 LXL and 8X32 LXL’s and loved both.  No Zeiss bin’s to try, though…  Left by 10:30 as we’re heading to Washington DC this afternoon.
