0900 Hrs. Partly cloudy, cool, 30F. Driving north on M-88 just outside of Central Lake I saw what I thought was a crow in the middle of the road. As I slowed down I realized it was a Ruffed Grouse just sitting in the road. I stopped as it began to walk in front of the car, and it flew just as I tried to take its picture. Just my luck, its about the fourth instance where I had a grouse in open view but wasn’t fast enough to photograph it.
0930 Hrs. Fisherman’s Island State Park – a small gale was blowing in toward land as I reached the park. A dozen or so Common Goldeneye were flying by, but nothing else. Aside from a few Common Raven, Ring-billed Gulls, and Black-capped Chickadees, there was nothing around. I didn’t have time to walk to the island. I did see a Brown Creeper on the way out.

1130 Hrs. Driving down to Elk Rapids I spotted a pair of Bald Eagles soaring over a farmer’s field just north of ER. Both adults. We stopped to pet his horses that were nearby.
