Airport Birding - 27 Jan 2007
27 January 2007 Orlando International Airport
0945 Hrs. As we taxied out onto the runway I scanned the nearby ponds and fields to see what would be my last birds of the day. First seen were a pair of Mallard, then a single Pied-billed Grebe. Not bad. Across the airport I saw an Osprey in a dead snag just above 6 Snowy Egrets. Several small flocks of Mudhens and American Coots were next to appear along the runway. As we made our last turn onto the tarmac, a field to my left has two small flocks of Cattle Egrets, some already showing some orange breeding coloration. The last birds? A pair of Sandhill Cranes! Wow!.

1230 Hrs. Landing in Detroit Metro the skies were dark, dull, and blah….. My only consolation to returning from a pretty good trip was a pair of Red-tailed Hawks working the fields next to the landing strip.
