Cold and Snow Expected - 12 Feb 2007

1200 Hrs.  Today its still cold, and we’re expecting snow – several inches today. I drove down to St. Johns and found the river completely choked with ice.  However, the boat docks on the other side of the fence have open water next to the posts, and there are a lot of Mallard, Canvasback, American Black Duck, Redhead and American Coots swimming in the ice holes.

A single Ring-necked Duck is there also, but far to the back.

I shot several frames of an American Black Duck through the fence, and they came out surprisingly well, even in the snow fall.

The Ring-necked Duck appeared, and I got several pics of him before running out of memory.

1530 Hrs.  I come back this afternoon and its starting to let up.  Its cloudy, but there are a number of ducks still near the boat ramp in the ice/snow/slush.   Despite the overcast skies I manage some nice images of Redhead, Canvasback and an American Coot.

I then drove down to Ecorse Park, where things were pretty quiet.  However, I did see a Ruddy Duck float by along the shore of Mud Island.

1600 Hrs.  Its starting to snow, and we’re expecting a couple inches this evening and another 5-7” inches tonight.  Robin and I drive over to Best Buy and purchase a new Epson R1800 Printer.  I spent the evening setting it up and getting a few printouts from it.  My Snowy Owl looks stunning on the Epson Premium Luster Paper – remarked by many to be one of the best papers out there!
