Ice-Gone! - 23 Feb 2007
1200 Hrs. It was sunny and windy this afternoon, but I needed to get down to the river since it was actually mild. As I arrived at the foot of Perry Pl. I came to the realization that there was NO ice on the Detroit River. It’s all gone! That means all the ducks were gone, also. I drove over to St. Johns and the boat ramp and sure enough the ducks were all gone. My only consolation was a handful of Mallard, and a couple Common Goldeneye,
Hooded Mergansers, a Redhead,
and Ruddy Ducks resting among the dock pilings.
I photographed a Canvasback through the fence and was able to catch it shaking water off itself. It then dove and came up w/ a face full of mud. Unfortunately the mud did not seem to come off easily.

The HQ had no birds, only a pair of American Tree Sparrows at the feeding station next to the fence. Time to run home!
