White-winged Scoter - 07 Mar 2007

A White-winged Scoter was spotted yesterday at Elizabeth Park in Trenton, so I headed down to the river after work.  It was cloudy, overcast, and cold (teens) but I managed to spot the beautiful male bird about 200 yds. out in the river just north of the free bridge.  I managed one digiscoped image and took an acceptable digi-movie of it floating.  A ride through the park yielded a flock of two-dozen American Robins and I managed a few photos from the car.

On the way out of the park I spotted a second White-winged Scoter farther north in the river.

I then drove out to Ecorse Park and checked for ducks.  The river was choked with ice again, and Canvasback, Redhead, Scaup, Common Mergansers, and Ruddy Ducks are about. A couple of Hooded Mergansers were a nice find.
