Red-tail Day! - 30 Dec 2007

Robin and I drove around the sunflower fields in Dearborn this afternoon to see if we could find the Peregrine Falcon that had been reported recently. We dipped on the Peregrine, but did manage to see several Red-tailed Hawks. One individual sat atop a street light over the Southfield service drive, and gave us a nice close-up view from our car below. I just love the coloring on this gorgeous hawk!

A drive down to Lake Erie Metropark afterward yielded three more Red-tailed Hawks inside the park. Stopping at the lakeshore we looked out over the hundreds of Tundra Swans and a mile-long raft of Canvasbacks. Amazing!

I managed a quick series of digiscoped images of four Tundra Swans performing a chorus nearby. Too bad the third bird was a bit out of focus...
