Horned Larks! - 01 Mar 2009
Me? I was out at Gotfredson and Vreeland Rds. on Sunday morning and came across several small flocks of 'tinkling' larks working the fields. One individual seemed unconcerned with my presence and hopped within a few feet of the car.
I was hoping to find some Snow Buntings and Lapland Longspurs, but had no such luck. I did find a pair of American Crows harrassing a Red-tailed Hawk that was sitting on the ground nearby, but the bird was too back-lit to be photographed.

A quick stop at Visteon HQ on Tyler Rd. yielded a few dozen Ring-billed Gulls, but nothing else. I may have seen a 1st winter Glaucous Gull, but it flew before I could get the scope on it. No WW Crossbills were to be found in the cemetery.

As I returned home I spotted a pair of Red-tailed Hawks soaring and hovering over the airport burms along Eureka Rd. I stopped in the median and grabbed a few quick flight shots of one bird that hovered for minutes at a time, but finally banked enough for a nice profile shot!
