Roadtrip! - 15 Jun 2010

Robin and I packed up the car and headed southeast through Ohio into West Virginia, then south through Virginia into North Carolina. Destination? Boone, North Carolina. Purpose? Mini vacation that included a watercolor workshop for Robin and local birding for me.

The drive was relatively uneventful. Ohio highlights included several Eastern Bluebirds and one Upland Sandpiper on fenceposts.

At a rest stop in West Virginia I found several Pipevine Swallowtail Butterflies feeding in the wet mud near the rest center and decided that they needed their pictures taken. In the trees behind the rest center I heard a pair of Wood Thrushes and an Ovenbird. A short distance up the road brought a pair of male Scarlet Tanagers flying across the road in front of our car.
