More Yard Cuteness! - 16 Jun 2015

We've finally had a sunny, dry day with low humidity. I was able to get out back and change the feeders. The sunflower seed had gone to seedling state, so I hosed out the feeder, dried it, and replaced with fresh. The hummingbird sugar water also got replaced (I'm doing it 1x a week). I was rewarded with a ton of activity this evening.

A half-dozen House Finches joined another half-dozen American Goldfinches. A juvenile Brown-headed Cowbird was among the party, so someone has unknowingly adopted a family member. A pair of Chipmunks have been enjoying the sunflowers. A pair of bunnies poking their head out of the grass, followed closely by mom. I even had short glimpses of a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak! Also seen were Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, Blue Jays, Northern Cardinals, House Sparrows, and was even strafed by a fly-by Barn Swallow!

Best bird of the evening was a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird! He spent several minutes perched on the branch in the back of the yard, but it was too dark to digiscope him properly. He also spent several long minutes at the feeder, so it appears he likes the fresh sugar water!
