White crowns - 22 Nov 2018
This morning the feeder activity here at Brownton Abbey included a White-crowned Sparrow. This lovely adult bird was displaying its gorgeous white crown stripes despite the low light.
Everything scattered when this juvenile Cooper's Hawk blasted through the yard looking for a meal. Though it dipped it flew to the trees at the edge of the woods and perched for almost 20 minutes. While it scanned its surrounding I noticed the amount of white feathering on the back of the head.
I then took a 120 fps HD video and slowed down playback to 24 fps (5X) for a super slow-motion video. Watch at the end of the video when the bird takes off directly into the camera. Pretty cool.
