Intro To Splash Photography - 31 Jan 2019


Day 2 of the Polar Vortex brought more biting winds and windchills to -30F. This didn't stop me from checking the Detroit River for diving ducks (again). This time I had the camera batteries charged, and adjusted exposure (1/3200 sec., f/8, ISO 200) to improve my capture rate. With the Canvasbacks, Mallard, Redhead, and even a scaup or two, I had plenty of subjects at point-blank range to photograph.  1000 photos laters I noticed a pattern: lots of spraying water...












Of course, when they weren't bashing fish brains trying to make smaller bits to swallow, the ducks provided some absolutely wonderful portraits.
