Interesting Junco - 14 Apr 2019
As of the 14th I still have 6 Dark-eyed Juncos visiting the feeder. Among them is a slightly paler, curious-looking junco. Everything is junco-like except for a pale throat and whitish submustachial stripe, and the very-slightest dark malar stripe. In some light there is evidence of ear coverts that could suggest a Dark-eyed Junco X Swamp Sparrow hybrid.
There are many references to Dark-eyed Junco X White-throated Sparrow hybrids. This bird may fall into that category, but may be the weakest example. Most birds will show a more distinct white throat and/or brown back and wings. Still, this was a fun bird to try and capture in photos.
