A Golden Afternoon - 17 Nov 2019
With no news of the Gyrfalcon this morning I decided to run down to hawk watch. I arrived a little after noon and was greeted with "incoming Golden!". Sure enough, a Golden Eagle was drifting north across the channel and moving to the north. It was far enough away to prevent any really good images, but I managed a few long-distance images. The count would end with 12 Golden Eagles reported, and I managed to see 6 of them!
Red-tailed Hawks were moving today, as well. After yesterday's 2600+ raptor day today was picking up the pieces.
A local Herring Gull (2nd year bird) was hanging nearby and gave me a chance to play with the digiscoping vs. Sony a9 rigs.

I put the two rigs to test at home, as well. Our resident Eastern Screech Owl was poking its head out of the box this afternoon.
In other news, a Field Sparrow was observed under the thistle feeder this afternoon to go along w/ 36 Dark-eyed Juncos!

Field Sparrow (Spizella pusilla) 1 Appeared briefly under thistle feeder just 5 feet from window. Tiny pale brown sparrow with pink bill and bright white eye rings. Pale reddish cap suggested American Tree Sparrow, but lacked chest spot. Flew off before I could get pics through window. Lacked dark line through eye so Chipping Sparrow ruled out.
Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis) 36 high count for yard this year.
