Interesting Junco - 02 Apr 2020

I was trying out the new Sony a7RIV camera this morning as a digiscoping camera. I was intrigued how 61MP would handle the scope. With sunny skies I decided to take the scope out on the deck and try the camera on the Dark-eyed Juncos that were feeding under the birch tree just 20' away. I'll be writing a review of the camera shortly; in short, it is AWESOME as a digiscoping camera. But, that's later.

I noticed one of the male juncos had a dark, bushy clump of feathers in the supraloral region of the face (just above the bill) while the other males did not. Is this a breeding thing? I've posted a couple of pics to the Facebook Bird ID Group to see if there are any comments.
