Wilderness State Park - 11 Jun 2021

Robin and I drove up to Petoskey, MI on Thursday of this week with the idea of doing some night sky photography. Forecasts called for clear skies here and at Wilderness State Park where I was hoping to take advantage of some truly dark skies (Bortle scale 2). Alas, clouds moved in Thursday night, followed by rain, an even heavier skies. So, we decided to take Friday morning to drive up to Wilderness State Park and kick around before driving home Friday afternoon.

It was cool and breezy at Wilderness SP but still nice to smell fresh cedar and pine. The beach was roped off due to possible nesting by Piping Plovers, but that didn't seem to stop a couple local fly fisherman from tromping the shoreline to get to the point. I took a few pics and headed back to car.

A flock of Cedar Waxwings were calling from a distant snag, while a single bird was perched overhead.

The "black" warblers were actively calling all morning, but impossible to find. Black-and-White, Blackburnian, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green Warblers, and American Redstarts. I saw a fox run across the road, and we stopped on Carp Lake Road to move a Common Snapping Turtle from the middle of the road.
