4400+ Broad-winged Hawks! - 19 Sep 2021

Detroit River Hawk Watch
started slow this morning. Clearing skies, rising barometer and ENE winds made for high expectations of a decent flight day. But, only Sharp-shinned Hawks were flying for the first hour or two. It wasn't until near 11 am that the first Broad-winged Hawks started kettling. And kettling they did! Unfortunately for us they were moving north near the Trenton stacks (but south of the refuge). We'd end the day with 4468 Broad-winged Hawks, 255 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 27 Northern Harriers, and 80 American Kestrel. Nice!
