Rough-legged Hawk - 21 Nov 2021
Robin and I drove up to Leelenau Peninsula to stay 2 nights at the Homestead. After lunch in Traverse City we headed west on M-72 toward Empire and spotted a kiting raptor over the road to our left. The white rump was diagnostic. Rough-legged Hawk!
It was overcast, so I had to open the camera +2 stops in order to get proper exposures. Winds were blowing, so the Rough-legged Hawk was having to adjust flight positions numerous times. Luckily, I was able to keep up with the adult male bird and get some nice images before he drifted off to the south.
