Yellow-throated Warbler! - 25 Apr 2022

A Yellow-throated Warbler was found yesterday at Crosswinds Marsh near the dam next to Haggerty Rd. in Sumpter Twp. When it was refound earlier today I made plans to look for it after work. Now, if only the heavy rains would stop.

I left work shortly after 2 pm and headed to Southgate where a Hooded Warbler was also found. I parked next to the woodlot for 10-15 minutes and looked but without avail. The rain was coming down and I suspect the bird was hunkering down somewhere. I continued on to Crosswinds Marsh.

I arrived just as the rains stopped and found Bonnie Piotter and Martha Hitchiner standing near a flowering maple and hoped that they were on the Yellow-throated Warbler. They were! I managed to fire off a shot or two just before the little beauty headed for the dam.

It disappeared for several minutes, so I turned my attention to the Yellow Warblers rummaging through the shrubbery growing at the base of the dam.

When the Yellow-throated Warbler was relocated we followed it back to the tree and spent the next 15 minutes rattling off 2500+ shutter clicks as it foraged for gnats and mosquitos taking refuge on the underside of branches. What a stunner!

When it finally flew off toward the road I thanked the ladies and headed back to the car. A Palm Warbler appeared nearby and allowed a few quick frames.

A flock of Yellow-rumped Warblers were also nearby but uncooperative.
