Ice Storm - 23 Feb 2023

A winter storm hit the midwest yesterday dumping rain to the south, snow to the north, and ice in Wayne and surrounding counties. Snow began falling early in the morning and turned to freezing rain by 10 am. By 11 am there was a coating of ice on all surfaces except the roads (yay). Rain would continue until early this morning and turn to a light mist at sunrise.

Everything was coated in 0.3 - 0.5" of ice but was supposed to melt with temperatures hitting 50F today. I decided to get some images of the trees, and some birds against the ice-coated branches. With the Sony a1 and 600/4 on a tripod I sat on the steps of the deck and caught the visitors coming to the feeders (which I thawed overnight in the garage).

Of note were the 30+ Red-winged Blackbirds that appeared yesterday during the ice storm. A pair of Common Grackles were also the first of the year.
