American Avocet @ Erie Marsh - 29 Jun 2023

Lesser Yellowlegs in Pool 4

An American Avocet was reported in Pool 4 at Erie Marsh yesterday, so I decided to make a quick run down there to look for it. I didn't expect to see it, but after running into Bruce Arnold he was able to relocate it along the far shore of Pool 3 (scope view only). Haze from Canadian Wildfires made viewing poor, but the bird was visible, as well as several Green-winged Teal that were flagged by eBird as being rare.

Before leaving I spotted a Great Blue Heron just 3 feet away, so I took a few pics.

I stopped by the Erie Road Fluddle but found nothing of interest in the field that was now mostly vegetation with few scattered, obscured puddles.

I then made a quick ride to Cell 1 at Pt. Mouillee but found no shorebirds. It was windy and humid and hazy and lighting was poor. A loop around Cell 1 only got me raindrops and a few Common Toad babies hopping across the trail.
