Mentor Marsh, OH - 18 Jun 2023

I dropped Robin off at the Morgan Conservatory shortly before 9 am and drove east for 30 minutes to the Wake-Robin Boardwalk Trail in Mentor Marsh. This short 0.25 mi boardwalk sneaks into the massive Mentor Marsh and gave me a quick view of the sedge marsh and inland ponds.

A Carolina Wren was singing loudly just inside the parking lot but would not cooperate for photos. I walked out onto the boardwalk and listened for Sedge Wrens, but only heard a distant bird. Otherwise the morning belonged to Song Sparrows, Red-winged Blackbirds, and a few tiny skippers, some Painted Turtles, and mosquitos. I'd find a pair of Willow Flycatchers just as I was leaving, but the birds were partially back-lit by the morning Sun.

I ran into another visitor on the way out and she recommended I try out the Cleveland Lakeshore Nature Preserve on my way back to Cleveland. So I did!...
