Slow Morning at the Moo - 18 Jul 2023

A quick run to Pt. Mouillee SGA yielded few specialties this morning. I parked at Roberts Road and road the South Causeway to the Banana north to Cell 4 then back south along the Lake Erie shoreline. Skies were clear, calm and mild (70F).

Cell 1 north was flooded with growing vegetation. I heard two Lesser Yellowlegs.

Cell 2 west side was overgrown with phragmites.

I ran into Mike McGee and David Boon in Cell 3. Noone saw any Black Terns or White-winged Terns. Linda and Kelly, however, had seen the WWTE three days ago, so it may still be around.

Cell 4 was quiet. Dredging pumping was actively going on in Cell 3 north. Hopefully, it will flood Cell 3 enough to knock down some of the phragmites overgrowing the area.

I stopped midway along the Lake Erie shoreline opposite Cell 3 and found a couple dozen Semipalmated Sandpipers and Least Sandpipers in Cell 3 east, but nothing else.

An American White Pelican was hanging out with the Canada Geese on the beach opposite Cell 3. Just a short distance farther south a Bonaparte's Gull was along the shoreline.

Cell 2 held a pair of Short-billed Dowitchers but they were only seen in flight.

Cell 1 south held 16 Lesser Yellowlegs (non-breeding adults).
