Late Afternoon Raptors - 29 Jan 2023
I decided to make a late afternoon run down to the Antennae Farm to see if any Short-eared Owls were flying this overcast, dark afternoon. They weren't. As I drove down Haggerman Road east from Labo Road I saw a pair of Northern Harriers hunting inside the fenced-in area and nothing more.
As I turned north on US Turnpike a third Northern Harrier was flying in my direction along the ditch to my left. I was able to pull over long enough to grab a few fly-by pics before traffic forced me to pay attention.

I drove through Lake Erie Metropark and headed by the Nature Center. Spotting several photographers on the trail across from the Nature Center I pulled in and parked, grabbed the camera and walked toward the group. They were cordial, and reported two Long-eared Owls roosting next to the trail. Sure enough, one bird was 12 feet off the ground and tucked into the thickets next to the bike path, and another bird was about 15 feet off the ground 3 feet in. I took a few pics as they snoozed, and kept moving. The birds appeared relaxed and just starting to wake up.

I decided to drive back to Haggerman Road and drive it west back toward home. No owls or harriers seen. I did see one of two American Kestrels and managed a pic as it flew off.
