Cell 3 Filling Up - 31 Jul 2024

I took a quick evening drive to Pt. Mouillee just to check on Cell 3. I wanted to check water levels in Cell 3 and status of shorebird numbers. Luckily, a pair of Red-tailed Hawks along US Turnpike would be around for something to photograph.

I parked at Roberts Road and biked out onto the South Causeway to Cell 3 west. Skies were mostly clear but it was hot and humid. It didn't matter, since there were only a couple of Lesser Yellowlegs, Greater Yellowlegs, Stilt Sandpipers and Short-billed Dowitchers present in Cell 3. Water levels were up, scoping distances were long, and no peeps could be seen. I didn't stay long except to photograph a Widow Skimmer on the way out.
