Very Slow Morning - 27 Aug 2024

This Yellow-bellied Flycatcher at Lake Erie Metropark was my only bird pic of the morning. A morning walk at Elizabeth Park yielded only a singing Eastern Wood-Pewee. Skies were overcast w/ storms moving through the northern counties; I managed to get ½ through my walk before rain started falling and lightning flashed to the north and west. Even at 8:30 it was a very sticky 75F.

As the rain started falling I drove south to Lake Erie Metropark. By the time I got there the rain had stopped and the sticky had returned. The trails behind the Marshland Museum were also very quiet. A House Wren and a pair of Carolina Wrens were the only sounds coming from the brush on either sides of the trail.

These two squirrels were busy chasing each other on the trail ahead of me and I could not resist getting some pics as they took turns jumping over each other.

The Yellow-bellied Flycatcher appeared at the north end of the loop just past the boardwalk. I would see a Magnolia Warbler along the west shoreline but it was too far to photograph. Otherwise I had to settle for long-distant views of Cedar Waxwings and Common Grackles atop distant trees.

The small flock of Wild Turkeys were foraging along side the road next to the entrance to the park.
