A Few Warblers and Hawks - 12 Sep 2024
I stopped by the Marshland Museum at Lake Erie Metropark this morning to walk the trails before heading off to Hawk Watch. Skies were clear, calm, and humid at 70F. A Cape May Warbler greeted me as I entered the trail just past Luc's Eagle Pen.
This Common Yellowthroat was a nice find, as well.
A pair of Red-eyed Vireos were semi-cooperative.
I walked past a Philadelphia Vireo but it was too backlit for any photos.
I then headed to the Detroit River Hawk Watch to join Andrew Sturgess, Jo Patterson, Frank Kitakis, and Bill Peregord for the morning watch. Things were a bit slow but we did see a couple Sharp-shinned Hawks
and a mini kettle of Broad-winged Hawks (9) just before I left at 11 am. While waiting for birds I saw this Pink-edged Sulphur (Colias interior) foraging in the grass nearby.
