First Yellow-rumped Warblers - 22 Sep 2024

After reports of warblers at Elizabeth Park yesterday I took a drive this morning to see if any were still around. They weren't. My only consolation was these "trash" birds in the form of Peacocks that were hanging around the dumpster next to the Maintenance Yard.

A pair of Cooper's Hawks were in the oak trees in the field but wouldn't show themselves for photos. A pair of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were buzzing above my head but disappeared near the Jewelweed patch.

I then headed over to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and walked the Humbug Marsh Unit. Reports of warblers yesterday had me wondering if they were still around. They weren't.

I did see a small flock of six Yellow-rumped Warblers (all juveniles) working the trees next to the trail as I was leaving, but they were too backlit for photos. Still, first ones of the year!
