Exploring The Arb - 23 Oct 2024
After dropping Robin off at the Ann Arbor Art Center I drove to the Arb and decided to explore the north and west sides. Skies were cloudy and breezy with temps near 60F. Parking at my usual spot on Riverview Ct. I entered next to the Dow Prairie and walked north while hiking the wooded trails to the west. Trees were near-peak and losing leaves as I walked.
Birding was a bit slow, which was good since I forgot my bins. All I had was the Sony a1 and 200-600 lens. Eventually I ran into small flocks of Black-capped Chickadees, Downy Woodpeckers, American Robins and the occasional White-breasted Nuthatch.
I eventually made my way back to the Huron River where four Belted Kingfishers chased each other up and down the river. I tried to find a gap in the vegetation to get some pics, but this 8-pt White-tailed Deer got my attention as he waded into the middle of the river before heading back to the opposite bank.
I'd make my way back to the riverside trail and head back to the car. A 3.4 mile walk was a nice way to kill 3 hours in Ann Arbor.
