Cold, Blustery Hawk Watch - 01 Nov 2024
The high winds and warm weather of this past week has been replaced with NW winds and colder temperatures. This afternoon the wind was blowing 10-15 mph and the temps were in the low 50's. This pushed kettles of Turkey Vultures out over Lake Erie, or forced them to fly way north before streaming overhead toward us. I arrived just after Don had ID'd a Rough-legged Hawk to the north.
Red-tailed Hawks were flying,
as well as a few Red-shouldered Hawks.
Sharp-shinned Hawk numbers continue to drop, but a few passed by.
A flock of 8 Bonaparte's Gulls flew in front of us.
I only stayed about an hour before I started feeling seasick again. I must have an inner ear infection, 'cause I'm getting dizzy and queazy looking through the scope and binoculars.
