This morning I was up early and watching as we entered the harbor of the Big Island.
While waiting to disembark for shore excursions I had the opportunity to see several large flocks of Western Cattle Egrets fly across the harbor.

Robin and I were going to tour the Imaloa Astronomy Center, Rainbow Falls, Candy Factory, and nearby Zoo. The locations themselves were nice, but more for the children’s interest, but I had a chance to do some birding on the grounds of the Astronomy Center and picked up a few species: Warbling White-eye, Saffron Finch, Yellow-fronted Canary, House Finch, Common Myna, and Pacific Golden Plover.

The Zoo had caged IO (Hawaiian Hawk) and Pueho (Hawaiian Short-eared Owl) but all I could find to photograph outside of cages were Zebra Doves and Nutmeg Mannikins.

We left port shortly after 3 pm and started our trip toward Vancouver. A few Humpback Whales surfaced near the ship or close enough to get some pics from our veranda.
Dinner would be back at Animator’s Palace. I stayed up until 10 pm for an Astronomy Party on Deck 10, but it was too windy and cloudy to see any stars.
