First Warblers of the Spring - 26 Apr 2025
I drove down to Erie Marsh Preserve in southern Monroe Co., MI this morning to look for warblers. I had expected to walk ~5 miles this cloudy, breezy, cool (46F) morning, but only walked about 1.5 miles before turning back.
Warblers were active, though. Yellow Warblers were singing EVERYWHERE while I had to work to find a pair of Palm Warblers.
This one was not only singing, but displaying, as well.
ISO 64,000 was necessary to catch any of the Yellow Warblers that were moving through the canopy and underbrush like they had places to be.
I'd pick up a singing Nashville Warbler singing in the brush but needed the Merlin App to verify ID. Merlin would pick up a Black-throated Green Warbler but I didn't hear it.
A pair of Tree Swallows floated next to me as I walked by the maintenance sheds. This one landed nearby and offered a nice portrait or three.
