April Showers bring May Showers - 01 May 2025
I woke to rain, but it subsided by 8 am. I decided to run down to Elizabeth Park to look for warblers. A big push of migrants occurred last night and White-crowned Sparrows were foraging below the feeder this morning. Also seen were Baltimore Orioles and a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
Elizabeth Park was a bit slow. I heard a Black-throated Green Warbler, Nashville Warbler and several Ruby-crowned Kinglets but no other migrants seem to have arrived. Photos were not to be had.

I then walked through the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Humbug Marsh Unit. Yellow Warblers were singing along the north fence line. An Eastern Meadowlark was also singing there. But the trails behind the Visitor Center were quiet except for a small flock of White-throated Sparrows.

I then drove over to Lake Erie Metropark in a downpour but it stopped as I arrived. I walked the trails behind the Marsh Museum but had to settle for singing Baltimore Orioles, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and my first Common Yellowthroat of the year. I had Merlin App playing and was surprised to see that it detected an Indian Bush-Lark and an Olive Warbler - the Discord folks got a chuckle out of it.
