Northern Parula - 09 May 2025

After yesterday's rain I was anxious to get back down to Petersburg State Game Area to look for Blue-winged and Golden-winged Warblers. Skies were clear and the air was a crisp 45F this morning as I pulled into the parking lot off Lulu Rd.

Northern Parula and Nashville Warblers were singing from every direction, but once again were in the tree tops. I walked the field and found several Black-throated Green Warblers, Blackburnian Warbler, and more Nashville Warblers but had nothing to photograph. I would settle for long-distant views of a pair of male Scarlet Tanagers and this pair of Field Sparrows near the car. No Blue-winged Warblers.

Just as I was about to get into the car I heard a Northern Parula singing close by. I spotted this guy low in the branches next to the car and took the opportunity to shoot away...

I then drove over to the lot on Teal Road to check the field where I heard the Golden-winged Warbler yesterday. This time I heard it in the distance, but could not locate it. Another Scarlet Tanager, more Nashville Warblers, Black-throated Green Warblers and Field Sparrows were seen. This Nashville Warbler appeared briefly while I looked for a Black-throated Green Warbler.
