Crosswinds Marsh - 10 Jul 2025
Robin, Maria and I took a drive to Crosswinds Marsh in Wayne Co. this morning for a short walk. Skies were clear, calm, hot and humid at 9 am. They took the boardwalk while I took to the woods.
The woods were quiet despite my hopes for a cuckoo. A distant Eastern Wood-Pewee singing in an otherwise silent setting.
Once I left the woods and the mosquitos I picked up a Marsh Wren singing in the cattails at the end of the pond, and heard a distant Swamp Sparrow trilling.
A Bald Eagle flushed from the boardwalk just as I entered and I managed a few pics as it flew across the pond to a perch at the treeline.
Except for the occasional Song Sparrow or Common Yellowthroat there was little to see as I walked the boardwalk over the lake. So, the Water Lillies would get the attention this morning.
I returned to the car but did not see the ladies so I backtracked across the boardwalk and back to the woods to look for them. A Yellow-throated Vireo singing in the woods was a nice find.
I'd return to see both Robin and Maria patiently waiting for me in the car. I hopped in the backseat and enjoyed a nice drive home.
