Barn Swallows - 12 May 2026

Robin and I took niece Mary (Chapp) to Crosswinds Marsh this morning to check out the woods and boardwalk. While they caught up I walked through the woods and picked up a Yellow-throated Vireo calling from the canopy unknown.

The boardwalk was busy with nesting Barn Swallows. Young and old alike were flying, perching, squabbling and gathering mud for nests below the boardwalk and under the eves of the pagoda. I enjoyed shooting them w/ the Sony a1 MK II and 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens. 

Maintenance workers were cutting grass much to the chagrin of the Canada Goose goslings.

The cattail marsh was active with Marsh Wren, Common Yellowthroat, Swamp Sparrow, Northern Yellow Warbler, and Red-winged Blackbird.

More Barn Swallows greeted us on the way back to the car.
