Quiet Morning in Quinlan Woods - 25 May 2026
Last night's heavy rain left everything wet. This morning skies were still cloudy but beginning to clear under calm, 60ºF temperatures. I decided to take a walk across the field into the Quinlan Woodlot to look for warblers.
Mosquitos were out. The birds weren't. Despite a nice mix of song I spotted few birds. The American Robin shown (top) was my only photo-opp. Otherwise, I had to settle for birding by ear.
The top bird of the morning was an Alder Flycatcher that continues in the same patch of trees as yesterday. Though I tried to lure it into view w/ a recording it managed to keep its distance.
Good news is that the Eastern Bluebird pair have returned and may be trying again to start a nest in the 3rd nest box from the owl box. Stay tuned.
