White-eyed Vireo - 07 May 2026

A drive to Petersburg State Game Area in s. Monroe County, MI yielded a few birds this morning, but very few photo opps. This White-eyed Vireo was the exception; it was singing loudly from the trees next to the Lulu Rd. parking lot

and finally came low enough to get some nice photos under clear skies.

Blue-winged Warblers were a target bird this morning. Although I heard several along Lulu Rd. they refused to show themselves. Kip Cotter was birding the road and mentioned seeing a Lawrence's Warbler and possibly a Brewster's Warbler. I was not so fortunate.

A nice highlight was seeing, and then hearing the "Ti-piiii" of a Broad-winged Hawk that continues in the woods across the road from the parking lot.

I would also hear Chestnut-sided Warbler, several Black-throated Green Warblers, Northern ParulaMagnolia Warbler and an Acadian Flycatcher that would not present itself next to the parking lot.

A fly-over Osprey was a nice way to confirm Merlin's identification of an Osprey when I first arrived along Teal Road earlier in the morning. I disregarded the ID until now.
